The Two-fer

Since we last checked in on our heroes some racing happened...

Last weekend (5/17/08) saw the third installment of the Endurance races of the SoCal Cup at the San Diego Velodrome.  One word - HOT.  It was 92F in the shade and track temps were in excess of 105F.

Apparently the heat affected my mental abilities and I slept through the opening lap of the miss-n-out and was eliminated first lap.  Smiley face or not, that sucked.

Points race went better, finished second.  I still have problems with judging where/when to attack on a 333 track though.  I think a trip to Hellyer for some of their regular racing is in order before Master's Nats.

Scratch race was *almost* done to perfection, the guy (SteveG) from Adams Ave that I was pulling with died about 100m from the line with me behind him, he didn't clear the lane and I allowed myself to get boxed by the rest of the field charging over the top, 6th.

I think this either put me in second overall for the Endurance series or I held my third.  I still haven't seen results posted anywhere yet.  I was hoping to hold off an update until then.  If I waited any longer I'd forget everything.

Yesterday (5/24/08) was the SCNCA district Individual Time Trial.  I love Time Trialing.  It's hard, it's solo, and there are no excuses for getting beat.  We had 100% team participation in the TT yesterday.  I'd venture we are the only team in all of the SCNCA that can claim 100% for any event!

TjK raced super hard - like he always does.  He went hard enough that he couldn't bend over and take his shoes off.  I love that about him.

I got beat.  I raced the Master's 35-39 age group.  My time was 54:30.  I was stoked.  I like time trials, I've just never been especially good at them.  I have been working to improve my TT ability and it was cool to finally average over 25mph for a TT and see that the training plan is working as designed.  That's one personal goal for the season checked off.  Winning time was  ~49 minutes.

TnA got dumped by the holder at the start and fell off the ramp.  Unbelievable.  Didn't slow him down too much though as he popped a 52min and change.  Great work.

Had great fun hanging out with JohnA from Velocity. He posted a respectable 52min and change.

Next weekend starts the Sprint and Keirin tourney of the SoCal Cup at ADT Center.  We'll see how that goes for me with having NO sprint work at all this season.
