Many Much Happenings
I am so happy the Summer Olympics are over - now I might just be able to get to sleep before 2A.M. on a school night again. I'll also be able to avoid the inevitable discussion of "Why are you watching table tennis?" (insert - water polo, equestrian events, or volleyball - both beach and team, equally for table tennis) "None of these sports interest you really. But there you sit, glued to the TV like a drooling mouth breather!?" All I have to say is some people just aren't "true" fans of the Olympic spirit.
I was very stoked to be able to watch both the men's and women's sprint semi's and finals on NBC's website. In addition the uninterrupted commercial free web feed of the Madison was epic. And, to see my friend and Santa Barbarian Adam Duvendek in the Men's Team Sprint was cool. Tough draw having to race the Brits in the first round though....four years of training and your entire Olympic racing experience is less than 57s.
Also, since my last check in, Privateer helped host it's first race - The Encino Velodrome Championships, an Elite Nationals Qualifying event. Really, Al Nash and the officials still did all the heavy lifting but TjK and I were there flipping lap cards, ringing the bell like monkeys asking for change. Scott Junker and Marc Tokar - two new potential Privateers for next season came out to help as well. Atsuko was there, still trying to figure it all out and Jenelle was the awesome bike racing den mother that she always has been - making sure the water gatorade, and snack bowls were full. We even had a little homemade barley pop on hand for after the racing that seemed to be well appreciated, and if not it was at least well consumed.
I have pictures to post from the race but that may be a while as I am a total nimrod and basically allowed my laptop to be stolen last weekend. pissed at myself.
Next week is Master's Track Natz. I'm all registered. Four confirmed events - Men's Sprint, Kilo, 3km pursuit, and Points race. I'm the alternate for a Team Sprint squad, if one of the guys has to go home early. I force them to race in the 30+ group and they want to stay 40+ if possible.
Don't really know what to expect from this event. I had some pretty mediocre performances at Master's States and really hope my legs and head both show up to race on the same day(s) at Nats. After doing my roll up for the year I'm at 470hrs, and 29k TSS points which is about a 15% year on year increase from last year in both volume and TSS. So, I've done my homework and done all I can to make this Meat Pie fly.
Next year, maybe try less Meat Pie?
