Masters Natz - Day 1&2 and now 3

Let's start with Day 1 results first:

The big "National Size," fish bowl is filled with big fast fish.  Met my personal goal and went under 1:20, a PR on this track.

The event in general has been running pretty well.  Not too late, not too long, and really fast competitive racing in all classes.

We have a good group of ADT regulars all camped together in a deluxe double pop-up cabana on the infield.

Yesterday was 3km pursuit for the 35-39 age group.

Results:

So, STILL 6/10ths away from getting under 4min...ARGHHH!!  Pursuit time:

I was able to make reasonable power though:

Averaged 386W for the 4min.  Pacing was good, gearing was just perfect for me, and the only thing I wish I could have done better was running my Hed3.  I left the Hed at home and accidentally grabbed the wheel bag with the Accel disk instead.  John Allen was nice enough to let me borrow his Zip808 for both the kilo and the 3km.  So, I don't think I'm at too big an aero disadvantage.

The very interesting thing is that this is nearly exactly equivalent to the average power I've been able to maintain over the last couple of weeks doing Tabata intervals.  It is also ~10W more than I was able to average last month at Master's States in San Diego.  Tabata, Tabata, Tabata!!!

Last night saw some AWESOME points racing in the 40-44 and 45-49 age groups.  Big fields:

Today was the Sprint tourney.  There were 24 registered, they were taking 8 to the tourney, 9-12 were to ride the minor final this AM.  Ran a 12:58 for the 200m TT.  Not fast enough to make the minor final, but still a PR at this track, and 3/10ths of my fastest ever.  Perhaps I should spend ANY time sprint training?  I might make a reasonable sprinter with 300+ more Watts and 30lbs less.

Results:

So, no sprint tourney for me.  Tomorrow is an off day for my age group.  Mom is coming into town today, well in about 20min really.  So, we'll go visit my brother in Berkeley tomorrow, and then points racing Saturday night for my birthday.  The points race promises to be brutally fast.  Then a possible team sprint Sunday AM.

J.
